Troop 55 was originally chartered in 1929 by the First Congregational Church of Downers Grove, United Church of Christ. Troop 55 was created to serve the expanding needs of youth in the area as other Troops were overcrowded. Our first Scoutmaster was L.B. Beardsley. The Troop has been in continuous operation since 1929. It is the oldest Troop that has maintained continuous activity in the Des Plaines Valley Council. Ever since any of us can remember, Troop 55 has been a camping unit. There are very few months that we have not been out camping. Troop 55 has had a good record in advancement also. We take pride in the Eagles that have come out of our Troop. An engraved plaque listing Troop 55 Eagles is in the Troop showcase. Current ScoutMaster: Michael Gage
